Health and wellness are two of the biggest components that fuel the energy and quality of our lives. So how does truth play an important role in our health? When you are being true to yourself, you are being honest with yourself and others about what you value and desire.

Taking ownership of our health means we need to accept who we are with compassion, take action to reach our health goals, and celebrate our achievements.  Here are several ways you can take control of your health while staying true to your transformation:

  • Determine your WHY. This is the unique aspect of your health journey. Your WHY is what inspires you to take action and sets you apart from everyone else. Determining why you want to live a healthier lifestyle is a crucial part in communicating your purpose and preparing an actionable plan.
  • Make a plan. Write down your goals and the steps to take to reach your goals. Having a written plan will make your objectives clear. When faced with a decision between a healthy or unhealthy choice, remember that making the healthier decision will give you a greater benefit, and greater satisfaction.
  • View challenges as opportunities: The road to success will have obstacles and challenges, but it’s the process of overcoming these that empowers you to transform. Welcome challenges as opportunities to grow by using Dr. A’s Stop. Challenge. Choose.®
  • Eat healthy. A healthy, well-balanced diet provides the energy you need to stay active throughout the day, and is a key factor for achieving a healthy weight. OPTAVIA’s Fuelings and Plans are designed to provide the right nutrition at every stage of your journey.

A nutritious breakfast helps reduce cravings and aids digestion, which are both equally important for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Breakfast also provides essential vitamins and nutrients to keep you energized and focused throughout your day. Here are some tips for implementing healthy breakfast habits to power you through the start of your day:

  • Plan breakfast in advance. If you know you’re going to be rushing out the door in the morning for work or school drop off, prep your meal or ingredients in advance to reduce the amount of time you spend planning in the morning. Have your Fueling ready to go, chop recipe ingredients the night before, or simply take a mental note of what you will eat in the morning.
  • Eat within an hour after getting up. Have your first meal within one hour after rising to keep blood sugar levels stable throughout the day, and boost your metabolism. The longer you wait to eat, the hungrier you may become.
  • Have healthy food. Start your day with a Fueling or prepare a healthy Lean and Green meal a healthy, hearty omelet or frittata for the entire family to enjoy.   • Enjoy your breakfast. Make an effort to sit down, and enjoy your breakfast, versus eating on the run. Focus on intentionally chewing your food throughout, to slow yourself down and eat slower. This tactic also aids digestion.

1 Lean | 3 Green | 1 ½ Condiments

Yield: 4 servings

Total Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

6 cups small broccoli florets

9 eggs

1 cup unsweetened almond milk

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp ground pepper

¼ tsp cayenne pepper

Cooking spray

4 oz shredded, reduced-fat cheddar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large microwave-safe dish, add broccoli with 2 to 3 Tbsp water. Microwave on high for 3 to 4 minutes or until tender. Transfer broccoli to a colander to drain off any excess liquid.
  3. Meanwhile, whisk together the eggs, milk, and seasonings in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
  4. Arrange the broccoli on the bottom of a lightly greased 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the cheese over the broccoli, and then pour the egg mixture over top.
  5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until center is set and top forms a light brown crust.

Per Serving: 290 calories | 25g protein | 8g carbohydrate | 18g fat
