Designing your own approach can help you stay on track and eventually lead to achieving optimal health and wellbeing. Consider these ways to jump-start your personal game plan:

  • Live your WHY. This is the most important element of your health plan. Your WHY is what inspires you to act – it drives you to live a healthy lifestyle and is a crucial part in preparing an actionable plan.
  • Write down your goals. Write down your goals and the steps to take to reach each goal. Written goals can make your health and fitness plan objectives clear. When faced with a decision between a healthy or unhealthy choice, remember that making the healthier decision will give you a more significant benefit and greater satisfaction in the end.
  • View challenges as opportunities. The road to success will have obstacles and challenges, but it’s the process of overcoming these that empowers you to transform- welcome challenges as opportunities to grow.
  • Manage stress. Realizing you are in control of your life is the foundation for managing stress. Take charge of your thoughts and emotions by identifying the stressors in your life and utilizing coping methods that are healthy and productive.
  • Reach out for support. As your independent OPTAVIA Coach, I'm here to guide and help keep you accountable. Our OPTAVIA Community of like-minded people offers valuable insight that will ignite your health journey, one healthy habit at a time.

Father’s Day is approaching! Even though one day a year really is not enough to honor the most important people in your life, Father’s Day is an excellent opportunity to express your gratitude to those who cared for you.

Here are some ideas to ensure you stay on plan while enjoying the special day:

  • Have a Lean & Green backyard BBQ.The key to a great day is a healthy and nutritious meal. Check out the OPTAVIA App for more than 200 delicious plan-approved Lean & Green recipe options to share with your friends and loved ones.
  • Host a lawn game.Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of the nice weather by getting outside for a game of badminton, corn hole, outdoor Jenga, or horseshoes. Split into teams and drum up some friendly rivalry. Make it a Father’s Day tradition and pass the trophy to the winner each year.
  • Head to the Farmer’s Market.Take advantage of a nearby Farmer’s Market and spend the morning picking produce, browsing artisanal products, or planning your Father’s Day meal ahead. You’ll never know what you may stumble upon!
  • Plan to keep in touch.Staying connected to your support team is an important part of healthy living success. Engage in weekly calls or text check ins to chat about your goal process and stay connected beyond the festive holiday.

Yield: 2 servings

Per serving: 1 Leaner, 1 Healthy Fat, 3 Green, 3 Condiments

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

2, (8-oz.) halibut filets

1/8 tsp ground black pepper

¾ tsp salt, divided

3 cups cauliflower rice

1/3 cup coconut milk

1½ tsp lime juice

¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Directions

  1. Season the halibut with the pepper and a ½ teaspoon of salt.
  2. Set oven to broil. Place the halibut on a small sheet pan and cook directly under a preheated broiler for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly browned and cooked through (fish should flake easily with a fork).
  3. While the halibut is cooking, heat a skillet and quickly stir-fry the cauliflower rice for about 2 to 3 minutes. Add the remaining ¼ teaspoon of salt along with the coconut milk and continue to cook for 1 minute.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the lime juice and cilantro.
  5. Portion out 1½ cups of cauliflower rice per serving and top with 1 piece of broiled halibut.

Tips: Mix the coconut milk well before using. Freeze extra coconut milk for future use. Do not use parchment paper on the sheet pan as it may catch fire under the direct heat of the broiler.

The OPTAVIA Lifeline

After steadily gaining weight following pregnancy, life stresses, and family tragedies, Rachel knew she had to take control of her weight to regain her health and quality of life. She’d been neglecting her health far too long after giving birth. “I put on weight after my pregnancies and allowed myself to wear those oversized clothes, while tending to my young ones and going about my life.”

Life became increasingly complicated, Rachel was impacted by a hurricane, the death of her father, and COVID all within a short time. As a result, Rachel stopped monitoring how, what and why she ate. The oversized clothes started fitting tighter.

“My energy simply collapsed. I was turning to coffee and chocolate as ongoing food groups, just to gain strength to make it through my day.”

Rachel desperately needed a solution. She went to the doctor as a first step, thinking there had to be a medical reason for why her body was not functioning healthily. Rachel insisted that her doctor perform every test imaginable to identify the root of her ongoing health symptoms. After spending unbudgeted amounts of money on medical bills, her test results were all normal. The suggestion her doctor offered was simply for her to make her health a priority, by losing weight. 

Feeling defeated and helpless Rachel reached out to a friend on Facebook, who had been steadily losing weight. “I reached out to her and said, “Whatever you’re doing, I want in.” And my journey began with OPTAVIA.”

It wasn’t long before she started losing weight on the 5 & 1 Plan. “It was so easy – from the Fuelings to the process to the preparation. I felt the weight “melting” off my body week after week*. “After eight months on Program, Rachel achieved peak results that she was well pleased with. “I felt alive again! My energy was back, and I was passionate about everything in my life.”

She developed healthy habits and was able to maintain her weight through the holidays. On her one-year anniversary of being on Plan, she had lost her desired amount of weight and was as healthy as she’d ever been.
