As you work towards optimal health and wellbeing Co-founder and independent OPTAVIA Coach, Dr. Wayne Scott Andersen, suggests following the “Trilogy Wheel” in Your LifeBook. The “Trilogy Wheel” encompasses the idea that having a healthy body, healthy mind, and healthy finances is the key to achieving optimal health.

We know that some things are out of our control when it comes to our overall health, but improving these three areas can lead to achieving your goals.

Follow these tips to get one step closer to transforming your mind, body, and financial wellness as you work to achieve optimal health and wellbeing:

  • Eat healthy. The food you eat can influence your mood and energy levels. A healthy diet includes a variety of vegetables, healthy fats, and lean proteins. Next time you need to go the grocery store, try shopping at your local farmers' market instead! You can find a variety of fresh fall veggies to add to your Lean & Green meals.
  • Sleep well. Sufficient sleep is crucial for anyone working towards optimal health. Staying up late, or sleeping minimal hours each night, will cloud your ability to think clearly and logically. Dr. A recommends, at minimum, eight hours of sleep each night.
  • Meditate. When done regularly and on a sustained basis, meditation can benefit your mental wellbeing. According to heathline.com it can help reduce stress, enhance self- awareness, and ease anxiety.
  • Reach out. Continue to expand your support system by sharing your journey and goals with the OPTAVIA Community, with me (your OPTAVIA Coach), or even your family and friends! When others become aware of your healthy lifestyle, they may align themselves or be considerate of the healthy habits you are working hard to achieve.

Every October, the color pink pops up in full force. From pins to sports uniforms, people integrate pink into their wardrobes to support breast cancer awareness month.

From awareness and public health education, advances in research are possible. Follow the tips below, in addition to screening and early detection methods, to raise awareness and stay healthy:

  • Get active!  Find a breast cancer awareness walk near you! It’s great way to get active, while also spreading awareness. If you are not ready to implement exercise yet, that’s ok! Attend the walk and cheer on everyone participating to show your support. Click here to find a race or walk near you.
  • Donate By making a donation, you can honor of a survivor, loved one, or help those who have breast cancer. Check out Breast Cancer Charities of America (BCCA) for a list of ways you can help women and men who are battling breast cancer.
  • Rock your pink! Who doesn’t love the color pink? Show your support by wearing pink all month long. Grab a themed tee shirt from a non-profit that donates to breast cancer awareness organizations or hospitals.

Ask me, your independent OPTAVIA Coach, about other ways you can give back and pay it forward as an OPTAVIA Client.

1 Leaner, 3 Green, 1 Healthy Fat, 1 Condiment

Yield: 4 servings (1 boat per serving)

Total Time: 75 minutes

Ingredients

2 small spaghetti squash

18 oz. cooked, shredded chicken breast

1½ cups shredded cabbage

4 oz. reduced-fat, shredded cheddar cheese

½ cup diced green onions

½ cup hot sauce

¼ cup + 2 Tbsp reduced-fat ranch dressing

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Prepare the spaghetti squash; cut each squash in half, remove the seeds, and pulp the strands. Place each spaghetti squash half face down on a foil-lined baking sheet, and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until easily pierced with a fork. When the squash is fully cooked, flip in the baking dish so that it is now skin-side down. Lightly scrape the flesh with a fork to create spaghetti-like strands; measure out 4 cups of squash and save any extra for a later meal. Place spaghetti squash shells back on the baking sheet, and set aside. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the 4 cups of cooked squash with the remaining ingredients.
  3. Stuff each spaghetti squash shell with half of the mixture, and place the baking sheet back in the oven. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until heated through.

Adding Control Back to her Life

Emma Jean decided to begin her health journey after many major life changes. She was a new mom, soon to be married, and about to move. She noticed herself gradually slowing down and knew that it was time to actively improve her health. That is when she began her OPTAVIA journey.

"I got focused on my nutrition and saw dramatic changes." Since going on plan, Emma Jean has reached her weight loss goals* and is no longer limited by her weight.

"Not only do I feel better, but I have taken control of my life. I no longer feel like I am out of breath after hiking, or can't fit into plus-size jeans. My self-image and confidence have improved, I have more energy to chase around my toddler, and I am a better wife/mother.”

After reaching her fitness goals and becoming the best version of herself, Emma Jean decided to help others reach their goals by becoming an independent OPTAVIA Coach. She now gets to continue improving her health, while helping others do the same.

“Becoming an OPTAVIA Coach has added a level of accountability, and it also has made the process so much more rewarding by helping others. I am so thankful that my own health journey is influencing others and making a positive difference in the world.”

*Average weight loss on the Optimal Weight 5 & 1 Plan® is 12 pounds. Clients are in weight loss, on average, for 12 weeks.
